Lancaster will host the International Youth Games in July 2027, welcoming young people from our twin and partner cities for a week of sport, culture, friendship and community.
The International Youth Games bring young people together through sport, cultural exchange and international friendship.
Each Games gives young people the chance to represent their city, meet others from across Europe, and take part in a programme of sports, social activities and shared experiences.
The Games are about more than competition. They are about friendship, confidence, teamwork and understanding across borders.
Lancaster will host the International Youth Games from Thursday 22 July to Tuesday 27 July 2027.
The event is expected to include:
young people from Lancaster District and visiting twin and partner cities
a programme of sports and cultural activities
opening and closing ceremonies
host family involvement
volunteering and community support
opportunities for local clubs, businesses and organisations to be part of the Games
More details will be added as planning develops.
The Lancaster 2027 Games are being organised locally by a volunteer committee, working with sports clubs, families, community supporters and local organisations.
Hosting the Games in 2027 will be a major community effort, creating opportunities for young people across Lancaster District and helping to strengthen links with our international friends.
Lancaster 2027 needs support from individuals, families, clubs, schools, businesses and community organisations.
You can help by becoming a Friend of the Games, sponsoring the event, volunteering, supporting fundraising, offering in-kind help, or helping us spread the word.
